Google IDX Early Access! 🤩
Today’s a developer Christmas for me! Not only did I land the new Gemini extensions, but I also got access to Google IDX. ❤️
Still in the early stages of exploration, but so far it’s been amazing with Flutter web — flawless performance! 💯 The Android emulator seems a bit sluggish, but that’s to be expected this early on. More testing is definitely needed. Ow and it’s PWA so you can “install” it 😉
One thing I’m particularly curious about is Gemini’s AI code support — their answer to Github Copilot. Both integrate with VSCode, with similar UI placements. While Gemini seems a step behind for now (fewer commands — just clean and generate — and less practical responses), it’s pre-release, so there’s plenty of room for a healthy competition!
We, the users, will ultimately benefit from this battle for code completion supremacy 💪
Speaking of exciting developer news, GitHub just announced their Github Workspace! 🎉 (Link to video). It looks incredible, and I’ve already signed up for the waitlist. Can’t wait to share my thoughts once I get my hands on it.
For now, it’s back to tinkering with Google IDX and exploring the potential of Gemini. 👨💻
Let me know if you’ve played around with IDX already and what your thoughts are. I’m curious to see what other experiences there are out there!
